Dean Kisters (1996, Heerlen, The Netherlands) is a multidisciplinary artist whose work moves between photography, painting, film and street culture. Kisters explores themes of identity, urban transformation, youth culture, post- industrial landscapes and the often-overlooked poetry of everyday life.
Known for his raw visual language and intuitive approach, Kisters captures the city as both a physical environment and a psychological space. His photography, often created at night, documents the streets, people and hidden corners of the world with a cinematic sensitivity. Grain, texture, and atmosphere play a central role in his images, balancing documentary observation with a dreamlike, personal perspective.
Photography forms a central component of his practice. Through atmospheric imagery marked by darkness, texture, and ambiguity, Kisters constructs visual narratives that challenge conventional distinctions between fact and fiction. His paintings and moving-image works extend these investigations, incorporating elements of street culture, vernacular aesthetics, and contemporary folklore.
Whether through a photograph, a painting, or a film, Kisters creates worlds that feel deeply personal while remaining open to collective interpretation. His work invites viewers to slow down, to look again, and to find meaning in the overlooked spaces between people, places, and memories.
